Tournament Brackets

The tourney brackets are out, and we were a #1 seed. The three teams that we have potential to meet in the first 2 rounds, we played all of them last weekend. I hope that night is still fresh in your minds. If you remember, the first 2 teams we played beat us once, so we have our work cut out for us. I like the block strategy that we have been playing with over the last few weeks. Let's plan on using it yet again on Sunday.

If we win, we just keep on playing......so eat your Wheaties!

AND if we win the entire tourney, I'll buy the WINGS on Thursday night! Ohhhhh yeeeeaahhh!

WE DID IT!!!

WE DID IT!!! We are officially the Fair Play Volleyball Sunday Night Summer Session II Regular Season Co-Champs! We have to share the glory with Team Helms, who also ended up with a 24-10 record. But it's far from over! The end of season tournament is this Sunday night starting at 4pm, so bring your best game (and sleeve hat..... :-} .....no don't. It's all business from here on out).

It is a double elimination tournament. The winner's bracket will play best 2 out of 3 games to 18. If it goes to a 3rd game, you play to 15. The loser's bracket will only play one game to 18 to advance to the next round. Lose that one, and your done. Let's let it loose and play like we know we can!

Video Clips

Here are a few video clips of our last regular season game night. Tony was "en fuego" (as Rome would say). My favorite things about these clips are Maria's commentary and Tony's huge grin to the crowd in the last clip (I think you can here me laughing).

Can we stay on top?

We are on top now, but we definitely have our work cut out for us from here on out. We have only 1 regular season night left, and then the end of season tourney. With 6 games left in the regular season, the race for 1st is within reach for a lot of teams. If we want to stay on top, we need to play like we did last week. We know that we all got a lot of practice in over the holiday weekend, but I'm still trying to figure out if that's good or bad. We'll see if we can adjust back to the sand and regualtion nets.

We will be playing against some of the better hitters in the upcoming matches, so I think I want us to put up an angle block EVERY TIME! We will have to do some serious shifting, but I think it will be most effective defense. Romey will drop back and cover the dinks in the center of the court. The outsides will be blocking angle: one will block angle while the other drops back on the weakside for the roll shot along the net or at a hard angle. The center back will cover the roll shot in the corners or the short roll just over the blocker. If the blocker sees that the hitter is "lightening up" his swing, I want him to yell "DINK!". This will send everyone charging forward to cover short.

This is it guys. It's crunch time! Let's finish strong!
